Alfresco是一个开放源码,开放标准的内容知识库. 兼容JBoss Portal 2.0与JSR-168. Java Server Faces图形接口框架. 可访问CIFS/SMB等.
Alfresco 主要是基于Spring, Hibernate, Lucene等开发. Alfresco公司利用开源代码Java中部分内容，尤其是利用了JBoss程序服务器和Spring开发架构，创建了目录知识库。
Alfresco公司表示，利用部分免费程序来创建软件可以让公司提供一个标准化网页目录管理系统，且其售价格低于现有产品售价。
关于新版本,官方提到:
---Multi-processor Scalability -- Changes to indexing and transaction control algorithms for 4X+ the number of concurrent threads on multi-processor systems.
JavaScript Server Extensions -- Add server methods in JavaScript with full access to the Alfresco data model for fast high-level development. For example, this JavaScript automatically generates a unique name for content based upon its parent folder:

---Web Client Extensibility -- Adds new pluggable application components such as an Extensible Dialog and Wizard framework and Configuration-driven Menu Types and Menu Items.
---Records Management Capabilities -- new records mgmt features include: time-based rules and metadata-update rules, retention and archival policies, JavaScript fileplans.
CIFS / Shared Drive -- Now extended with support for Kerberos for authentication token and LDAP for user and group definitions.
---Developer SDK and Documentation -- A downloadable SDK is available that provides examples, documentation and tools as well as end-user documentation.
